Amazon is going to develop an iPad application which allows users to read Kindle books on the iPad. So if you’ve already bought some digital books from Amazon, you’ll soon be able to read those books on the iPad. The books will now also display pictures in color.

The Kindle has no color screen and therefore the books are all in black and white. The nice thing is that the Kindle-books can be read on multiple devices and can be synchronized with each other. At home you can read a book on the iPad, and when your on the go you continue reading on your iPhone. This can be achieved thanks to Whispersync. The application can remember where you stopped reading the last time you opened the e-book.

There are more than 450.000 titles available from the start, and there are always free samples (the first chapter). The iPad-app will be adapted to fit the larger screen. You’ll also be able to adapt the background color and change the font.

The app will not be available at the launch of the iPad. Amazon has no iPad at their disposal, so they’ll have to wait till the device is available in Apple Stores. They will then test the app to make sure it works perfectly on the iPad.

Software company Symantec is planning on bringing a version of Norton 360 to the iPad. The applications allows for making backups and allowing access to documents, photos, videos and music files. It’s also possible to share files with others by sending a URL. It’s unclear if you can watch photos and videos from within the application.

It’s also not clear if there will be any security-functions or anti-virus or phishingtools. The first beta version will be available in the App Store in a few weeks from now. The question remains how much is the app going to cost. The Windows version of Norton 360 offers an online storage of 2GB that costs €80 and a more expensive version offering 25GB of storage for €90.

I like the option to double the size of iPhone apps on the iPad, but I think the real strength of the device is the fact that it will have its own applications specifically developed for the iPad. The developers of 1Password have announced they are working on an iPad version of the popular password manager application.

The application allows you to manage your passwords and make it easier to log in on websites. There are already 2 iPhone apps of 1Password and there’s also a desktop version. It is possible to sync via Wi-Fi so you can keep your data up-to-date on both your desktop and your mobile phone.

The iPad version of 1Password has a new interface with a long toolbar. There’s also more space to show information on a single page. Although the pictures are still mock-ups, they still show the power of a larger screen. There will be more information on Switcher’s Blog later as the developers are working on the application.

The screen of the iPhone is too small for certain applications. For example, if you want to transform your iPhone into a DJ console, all the buttons will never fit the screen or will be way too small to be able to use the console normally. So, the iPad seems perfect for such an application because of its 9.7-inch screen. And that’s exactly what John Kumahara has done.

He designed an iPad DJ concept (see photos below). A decent table top cd/dvd player will easily cost $1,500 and you need two of them. You also need a mixer which can cost as much as $500 to $1000. If you want video support by the way, you’ll need another thousand dollars. So all in all, you need $4000-$5000 for a DJ console set.

What about the costs for an iPad? You actually only need the Wi-Fi-only version with 16GB flash memory, so that will cost you $499. The iPad has probably enough horse power to simulate a DJ console. Ofcourse you’ll need two and you also need an iPhone or iPod touch. Let’s say you buy the 8GB iPod touch. That’ll cost you $199.

All in all, you only need around $1200. On top of that you’ll probably need some accessories and the software as well. Even if the software sells for a couple hundred dollars you still need a lot less money, probably somewhere near the $2000.

So, you go to a party with a backpack and you take out two iPads and an iPod touch, start the application and you’re ready to go.
