I often take my MacBook with me on the couch and put in on my lap. While watching television I can also browse the web a little. But I often find that the keyboard part of the MacBook is in the way when I curl my legs upwards to sit in a more comfortable position. The iPad is pretty flat and doesn’t have a real keyboard, so it would be a lot more relaxed to sit down on the couch surfing the web in a comfortable position.
