Steve Ballmer Announced New Tablets From 20 Manufacturers

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced several new tablet computers at the Worldwide Partner Conference in Washington DC yesterday. Those new tablet computers will run Windows 7. Asus, Dell, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba are all developing tablets to be released this year.

Although I say tablets, Steve Ballmer says slates:

This year, one of the most important things that we will do in the smart device category is really push forward with Windows 7-based slates. This is a terribly important area for us.

asus-eee-tabletThe slates will come in a variety of form factors: some slates will have keyboards, others will be touch only, dockable, able to handle digital ink, etc. That means the slates will also be offered at different price points.

Oe manufacturer is missing from the list: HP. The planned to release a HP Slate, demonstrated last January at the CES 2010 keynote from Ballmer. But HP has bought Palm and webOS and is now planning to develop and release tablets and other devices based on webOS.

Cam-Case Gives The iPad A Webcam [concept]

Missing a webcam on the iPad? There might be a nice solution soon. Although it’s still a concept, the design looks very good. The iPad Cam-Case is designed by Chet Rosales. This designer actually packed the camera in a case, so the iPad is protected as well. The camera can be used to make video-calls with VOiP-like applications like Skype.

The good thing about this design is the fact the camera is implemented into a corner, so you can use the iPad in either landscape or portrait mode. The case is made of a rubber material. There is also a port on the bottom to be able to re-charge the iPad without taking it out of the case.

Install Flash On Your iPad [Jailbreak]

Engadget released the first version of Frash. Frash has been developed by @Comex and brings Adobe Flash 10.1 to the iPad. You can only install Frash manually and you need a jailbroken iPad.

The article on Engadget explains how you can install Frash. You also need a file called Frash.deb, but has been deleted from their blog. It can be found fairly easy by using Google search.

Not everything works smoothly. Playing Flash-based games is possible but sometimes buggy. Video-playback is not possible yet, but a future update to a more stable version of Frash should correct this. The video below proofs that Frash works:

‘Pocket God’ Comes To iPad This Fall

What is Pocket God? You really need to ask that? With 3 million downloads and counting it seems everybody knows what Pocket God is. It’s one of the most best selling games in the App Store. iPhone and iPod touch users are going crazy with the numerous ways to torment the little funny Pygmies.

Pocket God UranusSet on an island somewhere on Earth, about six little Pygmies walk around on a ridiculously small island. With just one tree, some coconuts, a statue and lots of water, one might think ‘why the *bleep* did I buy this game‘? The 1.0 version of Pocket God enabled users to grab the Pygmies and toss them around. You could drown them and flick them into a volcano or feed them to a hungry shark. With each update (one every week) users got more ways to torture the cute islanders. At first the app wasn’t really a game, but with the latest few updates the developers added a handful of mini-games. Even Doodle the Doodler is present. And the game is no longer set on one island, but several, including an ice island, and a graveyard.

Pocket God Uranus 2Lately updates seem to be coming less frequent, frustrating many of the large fan club. Sales, however, seem to suggest the game is doing just fine. With 440.000 in-app purchases together with the more then 3 million downloads of the game, the developers have earned almost 2 million dollars. And it doesn’t stop there.

This fall, Pocket God for iPad will be released. But it won’t be an HD version of the iPhone game, Dave Castelnuovo told CNN.

“I don’t really believe in taking an existing title and cranking out an exact same clone of the game on every different console out there. If we have a really hardcore fan that has it on both iPad and iPhone, we want them to have a different experience.”

The humor will stay the same, the art will stay the same. The chapters and mini-games will be totally different. The first title will be called ‘Journey to Uranus’. The screenshots in this article are from the iPad version of Pocket God (click on them to see a larger version). There will also be a comic book real soon and a new update of Pocket God for the iPhone. The official launch day isn’t set yet, but according to Bolt Creative, it should arrive this fall. Pricing is also unknown at the moment.
