How many iPads have been pre-ordered so far? Many website have estimated calculations and the numbers differ much from each other. But one thing is sure, Apple has sold hundreds of thousands of iPads in the first week.
The Wall Street Journal says hundreds of thousands of iPads were sold and Apple can count on a strong first quarter of sales. They predict Apple could sell more iPads in the first quarter than the 1.2 million original iPhones.
From leaked information from Apple, it appears people have placed around 700 pre-orders per Apple Store. The most important Apple Store at 5th Avenue in New York an astonishing 1600 iPads have been pre-ordered. Half of the pre-orders are for the 32GB iPad, 30% pre-orders the 64GB-model and only 20% seems to be interested in the 16GB iPad.
And one of those pre-ordered 32GB iPads is mine. I managed to pre-order an iPad via a special service who ships from the U.S. to the Netherlands. They ordered the iPad for me and will handle the rest. I expect my iPad to arrive somewhere around April 8th or 9th.
Have you pre-ordered the iPad or are you planning to pre-order one? If so please leave a comment and tell me what you’ve ordered.
A member of the Chronic Dev Team has announced that there will possibly be a jailbreak for the iPad. As the owner of an iPad you get the possibility to install applications without the need of the App Store. The Chronic Dev Team discovered an exploit which will be processed in Greenpoison; a jailbreaktool for the iPhone and iPod touch.
You can read more info in blog-post. The Team also started a chip-in to gather some money for more research as soon as the iPad becomes available. Here is Posixninja’s explanation:
“I guess what I’m trying to say is, with all my time, sweat, blood, and tears (and adderall) that i’ve invested into this product, it really irks me when I see people calling it fake. And far as the donation thing is concerned, this something I really really hate doing. If I had a job and the money I would of never ever considered asking for any donations, and I was still reluctant to. The only reason I finally decided to post the chipin is because many people (including some of the devs who make all your beloved jailbreak apps) encouraged me to start this fund. They believed in me and were the first to donate. I’m not trying to force anyone to donate, take advantage of anyone, or holding anything for ransom. I’m just looking for some help to allow me to continue my research fulltime (which ultimately helps all of you in the end). I thank all the people who have already donated. But if you’re still a skeptic, then that’s fine too.”
Shipping windows for several of Apple’s forthcoming iPad accessories have begun to slip past the device’s own April 3rd launch date. I posted information about the iPad accessories and their launch date last Friday. Accessories like the iPad Dock and iPad Case had a launch date of April 3rd, the same as the iPad. Now it seems these accessories have different launch dates.
The iPad Case for instance now ships mid April. The iPad Keyboard Dock first had a launch date mid April. It now ships late April.
“First we noticed the iPad case making a slight shift from April 3rd to Mid-April. Today we notice Apple has delayed the iPad Keyboard Dock. The product was originally set to ship to customers in late-April but now the Apple store has placed the shipping time for sometime in May.”
The reason for the delays is unknown, but it could be due to high demand. The iPad Camera Connection Kit, announced at the January 27th keynote, is still not available for purchase at all.
I assume we’ll here more from Apple about the iPad and its accessories as we approach the April 3rd launch date.
P.S. The picture shows a launch date somewhere in May for the Keyboard Dock, but Apple’s website shows late April as the launch date.

With only a little more than two weeks to go before the iPad launch, ngmoco announces they plan to release not one but six iPad games. CEO Neil Young revealed the ambitious plans to Computerworld at GDC.
Freeverse’s highly anticipated space conquest game Warp Gate will see the light when the iPad is launched. You can watch a sneak peak of the game at TouchArcade. Freeverse classics like Flick Fishing and NBA Hotshot will also be released for the iPad. CastleCraft is a new game and the fourth iPad game on the list. A MMO strategy game where you have to build and manage one or more cities, gather resources and build military units to wage war.
The last two games come from ngmoco themselves. They will make iPad version of both Godfinger and We Rule. Both games are free on the iPhone and it will be likely the games will also be free on the iPad. Ngmoco will make profit because of the In App Purchases and other online content.
More information will likely be available pretty soon as April 3rd gets closer.
Eight days after the previous release, Apple has released iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 5 via the iPhone Dev Center. I haven’t heard or read about any significant changes in the latest update so far, but I’ll keep my eyes open as SDK users will undoubtedly report their findings.
