If you have an iPhone or iPod touch and you also like to play Sudoku, you probably know it’s hard to do on such a small screen. That’s why Apple introduced the iPad. Not specifically for playing Sudoku ofcourse, but the larger screen opens up new possibilities and makes playing certain games easier. Sudoku Real Edition is one of those games.
Sudoku Real Edition for iPad will be available in the iPad App Store on day 1. The game’s developers say the following about their decision to release this app for the iPad:
“Squeezing 81 squares onto an iPhone really sucks and this is why we’ve implemented it on the iPad.”
The game has 400 puzzles in four different difficulties. The game also records your progress through all of the 400 puzzles. It shows your best time and average time in each difficulty. There’s even an option to tell you if an entered number is correct or not. And the game has some nice special effects when you compete a puzzle. No word on the pricing though.
Here’s what the developers say about how much thought went into developing the UI:
“Our game is unique in the way it aims to be as real as possible. When you’re playing it’s almost as if you went down to the store, bought a Sudoku book and sat down at a table to play.
Sudoku Real Edition is about taking a game everyone knows and implementing it into a polished, tailored app specifically for the iPad. Sudoku Real Edition has been created to be as real as possible so your mother or uncle will know how to play because it’s just like playing a real sudoku book.
The game graphics look incredible with the iPad’s higher resolution. All major graphical elements are real items we photographed which provides a great feeling of realism. The sound and animations have all been modelled off a real book. Instead of a “pause screen” for example, Sudoku Real Edition implements a bookmark that slides into place. There is also “no wrong way up”, everything automatically animates into the correct location regardless of how you’re holding the iPad.”

I recently posted information about the fact that developers can get their iPad apps in the App Store if they submit the applications to Apple before March 27th. It seems Apple has already approved iPad games. The names of the games appeared in Apple’s iTunes Web Interface.
PadGadget found that many iPad applications will get ‘HD’ added to their names. Games like Flight Control HD and Labyrinth HD have been discussed before on iPadFreakz. Below is a list of upcoming iPad games all with HD added to their names:
Ammoin HD
Azkend HD
Flight Control HD
Grind HD
Labyrinth 2 HD
NBA Hotshot HD
Numba HD
Plants vs. Zombies HD
Sparkle HD
Worms HD
“We did a quick scan and were able to find several titles clearly marked as “HD”, a common label developers are now using to indicate an iPad specific version of their app. HD is not a universal title for iPad apps, some developers are instead choosing “XL” to denote their iPad version or simply creating a universal build so that both the iPhone and iPad versions are contained in a single app. There are probably many more titles in the database that have been approved by Apple for the iPad that we haven’t yet stumbled upon.”
Two surprising names in this list are Worms HD and Plants vs. Zombies HD. Both games are very popular on the iPhone and I’m very curious to what these games will look like on the iPad.

The Other Mac Blog notes CBS.com began displaying several strange “iPad-test” video links. MacRumors.com did some more digging into this matter.
“We investigated further and found that clicking on these “iPad” labeled links in your normal desktop browser brings you to the usual Flash versions of these videos. Of course, these wouldn’t properly play on the Apple iPad due to Apple’s well known decision not to support Flash. However, if you visit CBS.com using the iPad SDK Simulator or spoofing your browser’s User-Agent to impersonate an iPad, you are sent to a different version of the video.”
The new version of the video seems not to work but is based on HTML5. The iPad does support that new format in the iPad’s mobile Safari. One option does work though: the “fullscreen mode”.
The Wall Street Journal has decided: iPad version of the newspaper will cost $17,99 per month. That’s almost 10 dollars less than the paper version. The newspaper placed an article in which they quote a “person familiar with the matter”.
The Wall Street Journal is part of News Corp. The man in charge is the famous Rupert Murdoch. He always says people will have to pay for quality content. That’s why most articles on the website of WSJ can only be viewed in combination with a membership. It comes to no surprise that the iPad version of the newspaper isn’t free, but is $17,99 cheap or not?
Wall Street Journal also says six companies will advertise in the digital version of the newspaper: companies like Coca-Cola and FedEx will show their ads.
