Economic Daily News reports that a new, smaller iPad will be released before the end of the year. Sourcecode of the latest iOS 4.1-beta shows that a new iPad as well as a new iPhone is currently being tested. The fact Apple wants to release a smaller iPad, could indicate the company wants to bring a iPad-line to the market, just like the Macs.
According to the report, the new iPad will have a 7-inch touchscreen. Another report comes from DigiTimes Research and suggests Apple will also release a new 9.7-inch iPad (generation 2) in the first quarter of 2011. The iPad will likely get a Cortex A9-processor and 512 MB of memory. It will also have a IPS-screen with a resolution of 1024×768 pixels.
The current Apple A4 processor in the first generation iPad is already a very economical processor while still offering a lot of power. The Cortex A9 will be even more energy-efficient while still delivering more power then the Apple A4. Though the rumors say the A9 will likely be a multi-core processor, a single core Cortex A9 could be offering a speed up to 2 GHz. Officially the Cortex A9 will have 4 cores. With such a processor in the iPad it becomes pretty easy to perform 3D-manipulation and HD-video editing while still drawing only a small portion of power from the battery.
Soon there will be an new Apple event focussing on music. This means new iPods and other exciting announcements, but it also means it’s time for rumors. iLounge has put together a list of things Apple will soon release. All products are next generations of the iOS devices and sound very exciting so let’s have a look.
With all the negative attention the iPhone 4 is getting, will Apple release iPhone 5 earlier then expected? iLounge thinks so and says the plan is to release the iPhone 5 as soon as January! We can also expect a next generation iPod touch ofcourse, but it looks like we’ll see an iPod shuffle with a touchscreen soon as well. And the iPad isn’t even available in most countries, let alone the availability of the iPad in countries who do have the iPad, but rumors have it that Apple plans to release a 7″ iPad early next year.
Early September Event
Apple reportedly has three new models of iPods ready for release. Expect to see the new iPod touch and a new iPod nano. The third iPod will be the shuffle, which will come with a touchscreen (as was leaked not so long ago).
New iPad Already?
I’m very happy with my 9.7-inch iPad and I think it’s a perfect size. It’s not too small and not too large. Apple obviously thinks it’s necessary to release a smaller iPad. The 7-inch iPad is scheduled for launch later this year or early next year, the report says.
It’s Time For iPhone 5
If you buy an iPhone you want to proudly show its design to your friends and family. The iPhone 4, how unfortunate, needs a case to make sure the antenna isn’t blocked by its user’s fingers. The fifth generation iPhone will likely address these antenna issues. The question is, will this new iPhone be an actual new version with better hardware, or will it just be a tweak to address the antenna problems?
What do you think? Will these rumors come true or do we have to take them with a huge grain of salt?
Is jailbreaking your iPad (or iPhone/iPod touch) easy? For many people it might look very technical, but in reality every jailbreak method is relatively easy. But a jailbreak can also be extremely easy. A new method, released by @comex, called Jailbreakme.com, is so easy, literally everybody can do it.
The jailbreak is for the iPad running iOS 3.2 and 3.2.1, but can also be used with the iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0 and 4.0.1. The iOS 4.1 beta is not supported, so be careful. You can go to jailbreakme.com on your iPad and jailbreak it without the need of another computer. It’s as simple as sliding the “Slide to Jailbreak” slider.
The jailbreak is an untethered userland-jailbreak, just like Spirit. That means you don’t need to perform a restore before you activate the jailbreak. The also don’t have to jailbreak every time you reboot the iPad. There was a small problem with iPad running iOS 3.2.1. With some users the iPad reboots when sliding the slider, but comex says they solved the problem with the most recent update of the website.
How is the jailbreak working on your iPad?
Rumor has it BlackBerry has been working on a tablet of their own. According to Bloomberg, the BlackPad will be released in November this year. The device has a 9.7-inch screen, just like the iPad. It also comes with wi-Fi and Bleutooth and is able to connect with the BlackBerry to use its internet-function. The tablet computer does not come with 3G-function.
Bloomberg says their sources connected to the plans of the company. RIM, the BlackBerry manufacturer, recently acquired the domain BlackPad.com. Further details are not yet available. It’s also not clear if the BlackPad will run BlackBerry OS 6. The price will be somewhere near the price of the iPad at $499. RIM plans a press conference next week, maybe they’ll release some more info then.

Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, is not happy with the huge iPad sales. He said that at an meeting with analysts at the Microsoft headquarters in Redmond. Ballmer spoke about the ambitious plans the company has with tablet computers running Windows. Together with smartphones, these tablets should be a big competition for Apple and Google, he claims.
Apple has sold over 3 million iPads and Microsoft is not happy with those numbers. The company is now working together with Acer, Dell, Toshiba and other companies to bring Windows-running tablet- or ‘slate’-devices on the market.
“We’re coming full guns,” said Ballmer at the company’s annual presentation to analysts at its Redmond, Washington headquarters. “We’re going to sell like crazy; we’re going to market like crazy.”
The main priority of the company is to bring tablets on the market. And instead of using chips from ARM, Microsoft will use Intel chips. A new chip will push the tablet-market to the next level next year, says Ballmer. Windows Phone 7 should also be a game changer for Microsoft. The new mobile phones running this operating system should arrive this fall. Steve Ballmer added that Microsoft will try to ‘aggressively’ promote the new tablets and mobile phones.
