iPadFreakz: New Poll And Countdown

It was about time to post a new Countdown and ofcourse a new Poll. The previous Countdown showed how long it would take before the iPad launch. Since the Wi-Fi-version has launched three days ago it’s time to focus on something else: iPhone OS 4.0. The event will take place at the Cupertino campus this Thursday so it’s a very small Countdown; only a little over 2 days to go.

The Poll really needed an update. Not many people have participated, but the question was pretty out-of-date. Most people thought Steve Jobs’ January 27th keynote was OK, Great or Awesome. My new question is: Are you going to buy the iPad? In case you already have an iPad, you can still answer the question by selecting option number 1.

I will definitely buy the iPad. I tried to pre-order one, but since I don’t live in America it was hard to get one and I eventually failed. But as soon as the iPad becomes available in Germany I’ll travel to one of the Apple Store there to get one. I just have to be patient another three more weeks.

(both the Poll and the Countdown can be found on the right side of the page)

iPad: Will It Blend?

Okay, you buy the iPad, you go home, start the device and start watching a movie. No? Music? No? Play games maybe? No! There are a lot of other things you can do with the iPad. You could buy the baseball bat accessory to smash the iPad to heaven. But you could also buy a nice blender to…blend some juice?…no, to blend the iPad.

The guys from Will it Blend? have made a new video showing the iPad is not strong enough to withstand the force of their blender. They do cheat a little by the way, but even at 43 seconds the iPad still works! Thanks for the quality stuff Apple.

Personally I think it’s a waste of money and a shame to destroy such a beautiful product, but at the same time I can’t help but laugh at these kind of videos. This blender must be made of diamond or something, it never breaks but does destroy everything else.

Apple Event: iPhone Firmware 4.0 Sneak Peek

Apple has sent out media invitations for a preview event scheduled for this Thursday, April 8th, to show iPhone OS 4.0. The event starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time in the Town Hall on Apple’s Cupertino, California campus.

Every new update of the iPhone firmware brings new functionality, but with a whole new version of the operating system, all kinds of new features are added. So this week we’ll hear about the next big update of the iPhone OS. And since the iPhone firmware also runs on the iPad, it’s interesting to know what new features Apple has to show us.

Rumours say Apple will mainly focus on multitasking, a unified inbox for multiple email accounts and the ability to place contacts directly on the home screen. Many people will still ask for Flash support, but Apple will never implement that. It’s sort of a swearing. It’s going to be HTML5 on those devices. It also seems Steve Jobs said the next big update should be a A+ update. So I’m very interested to see what kind of new things will be added in the next iPhone OS update.

What do you think Apple will show us this Thursday?

P.S. I will not be doing a live blog, but I will report about the event instead, giving you every detail about iPhone OS firmware 4.0.

Not 700,000 But 300,000 iPads On First Day

Apple has officially announced that they had sold over 300,000 iPads on the first day. The sales include both the pre-orders as well as direct sales at Apple Retail Stores and shipments to channel partners. The iPad App Store and iBookstore are very popular as well. Over one million apps from the App Store and 250,000 ebooks from the iBookstore were downloaded.

Apple’s CEP, Steve Jobs, says that “it feels great to have the iPad launched into the world.” He thinks it’s going to be a “game changer”. The average user downloaded three apps and one book in the first hour after unpacking the iPad. These official numbers presented by Apple don’t actually correspond with the analyst predictions claiming Apple sold 700,000 units on day one.

iPad Jailbreak Already Fact [+video]

In need of a jailbreak for the iPad? Just one day after the iPad launch hackers have been successful in developing a jailbreak for the iPad. Will Strafach, of the Chronic Dev Team, has confirmed that they have obtained access to the necessary root-access on the iPad. It’s is unclear what method they used and when the jailbreak is available to the public.

A jailbreak of the iPad means that applications can be installed and used without the need of the App Store. There are probably two methods the Dev Team could have used: one userland-jailbreak called Spirit (developed by @comex) and one iBoot-based jailbreak (developed by Chronic Dev Team and Geohot).

Possible release dates could be the day firmware 3.2 becomes available for the iPhone or when the iPad 3G is released.

MuslceNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has posted a photo and video through his Twitter-account to prove that he has obtained root-access to the iPad. The jailbreak method is untethered and is based on the userland-jailbreak called Spirit, according to MuscleNerd.

  • Untethered-jailbreak: this is the best kind of jailbreak and doesn’t need help from other devices while booting. For an untethered-jailbreak it’s necessary that the chain or trust will be broken during the first stadium of the booting process (the bootrom).

The iPhone Dev Team, the Chronic Dev Team and @chpwn are momentarily working together to further develop the jailbreak. Take a look at the video below for more information:
