iPad Overheating Issues

The design of the iPad is beautiful and its screen is gorgeous, but outdoors the iPad is not the best device to use. The iPad seems to have significant overheating issues.

I guess using the iPad for ten minutes in direct sunlight on a 70 degrees day in New York City is not working out the right way for Apple’s newest device. Take a look at this image. PC Magazine’s Zach Honig had to put his iPad in the fridge to get it running again.

The yellow temperature warning logo is the same as on the iPhone which also has overheating issues. It looks like the iPad is a little bit more sensitive to higher temperatures because of the size and speed.

No comment on this issue from Apple so far. Have you been experiencing overheating issues?

PC World Performs Stress Test On iPad

First the baseball bat destruction of the iPad. Next were the guys from Will it blend? who completely turned the iPad to ash with their superman blender. And now a video from PC World performing a stress test. How much can the iPad withstand?

The video they made shows what they do with the iPad. They let it fall on the carpet, use it as a coaster, spill coffee over its screen, wash the screen clean with soap and water and than drop it on the stone floor. To make sure the iPad is really dead a baseball-ball hits the screen with force.

It turns out the screen is really scratch resistant and can be controlled by a donut…

You can watch the video at PC World.

iPad Wi-Fi Connection Issues

Complaints? Noooooo! It can’t be, Apple products should be prefect. Okay, calm down Eric. As with almost every first version of a new product (even with Apple products) there are some things that just don’t work out the way they should.

On the Apple support site people are complaining about the Wi-Fi connection of the iPad in a 10-pages and counting topic. The typical complaints are that the iPad shows no Wi-Fi signal or a weak signal, while other devices have a perfect connection:

“Having this issue with my iPad as well. It’s dropping down to one bar in a part of the house the most other devices, including my MBP and my iPhone, get full service. The WiFi is so dense in our house that I often get signal outside on most of my devices. The iPad’s WiFi antenna is like the new iMacs – it’s centrally located behind the Apple logo, and it’s tiny. The difference is the iMac’s Apple logo isn’t usually resting on something; the iPad’s usually is.”

The first editions of the MacBook Air had Wi-Fi problems as well with some people eventually abandoning their computer because the WiFi only worked in Apple Stores even when those people had Apple networking equipment at home. It would be a big problem if this happens with the iPad as well. The first user is already going to bring the iPad back:

“Not spending $500 on something I cant even use. Its going back tomorrow.”

American App Store Displays iPhone And iPad Apps Separately

The American App Store is slightly different compared to other countries’ App Stores. There is a special part of the App Store dedicated to iPad applications. There are now two buttons: one iPhone App Store and one iPad App Store. This makes it even easier to find iPad applications.

The special iPad applications can be found in other App Stores in Germany or France for instance, but only the American App Store has those two buttons. It’s also not necessary to add those two buttons in the Germany and France (and many other countries) App Stores because the iPad is not available there yet.
