Approximately 37% of the iPad users plan to read books on the device, a new study has found. Another 34% say they will read newspapers and magazines on it. The study was conducted by comScore and the results were posted in a press release on their website.
Consumers being a part of the Apple mobile ecosystem are referred to by comScore as “iOwners”. From those “iOwners”, 52% is willing to subscribe to print content formatted for an e-reader, against 22% of all other consumers.
The survey also wanted to see how users plan to use the iPad. The most popular option seems to be to browse the web: 50% says they will access their favorite websites via the iPad.
The second option that will be used by iPad users is checking e-mail with 48%. Another 38% will listen to music, 37% will use the address book and contact list functionality, and 36% plan to watch videos and movies.
Since the announcement of the iPad, people have also been more aware of this new Apple product. Around 65% of the respondents say they’ve heard about both the Kindle and the iPad. The iPad also seems to win from the Kindle when it comes to demand of these devices: 15% is seriously considering to buy the iPad, while 14% would consider the Kindle.
Below is a small list of the remaining finds of the comScore survey:
- Consumers are generally happy with the “iPad” name, with 49 percent having a positive impression and 27 percent indifferent. The results are also gender-neutral, with both men and women having the same reaction.
- Unsurprisingly, those who already preordered an iPad are likely to already own an iPhone or iPod touch. But 15 percent of both “iOwners” and “non-iOwners” said they are likely to buy.
- In terms of cannibalism, 37 percent of respondents said they are most likely to have the iPad replace an iPod touch. But only 22 percent of consumers said they would use an iPad in place of a netbook.
- AT&T customers are more likely to buy the iPad in its first three months, with 25 percent of them stating their intent. But just 10 percent of Verizon subscribers said they will buy an iPad.
