Apple will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.

Apparently it is not possible to view the live stream if you’re on a windows or linux machine. The stream is only compatible with a Mac, iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.

While the protocol has been proposed as a standard, so far Apple is one of a few companies who has implemented it. As a result, the video will only be easily viewable on the specified platforms. There seem to be some advantages to the system over existing streaming technologies. Notably, there should be no router/firewall issues as the stream is sent over standard HTTP protocols. Server Farm

As to why Apple is delivering a live stream of the presentation, some people say Apple wants to test their new server farm. An anonymous tipster said: “Apple’s first live video broadcast in years is a test of the server farm’s ability to stream a future version of iTunes for iOS devices. The goal is to monitor traffic load and quality”. Twitter

Summary

When Steve Jobs ends his keynote, I’ll be posting a summary of the event, so you can calmly read about today’s music event. You’ll be able to read about the latest iPod touch and possibly about a new iPod nano, iTV and iOS 4.1 as well. Hope to see you back and have a happy “Apple Event”.

Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole.  They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak.  So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?

No, there won’t be.  FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole.  With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.

The previous poll has been answered quite well, with over 60 votes. The question was: “Will you buy the iPad?”. More then 9% voted on “Yes, as soon as it’s available”. Interestingly, the second place answer says: “No, I’ll wait till version 2 comes out”. A little more then 8,5% voted on that answer. While 6,6% said they’d already pre-ordered the iPad, 5,3% of the people don’t know what to do with it and 6% of the people just couldn’t decide yet. Another 5,3% of the people wait till iOS 4 comes out.

I’ve now started a new poll. The question this time is: “What kind of Apple iPad accessories have you bought?“. Multiple answers are permitted. Let’s see what the results of this poll will be. I have bought the camera connection kit. I decided to buy a different iPad case and have bought the wireless keyboard instead of the keyboard dock.

As with many Apple events, people try to get their hands one every single piece of information about the event in the hopes they can unravel the secrets behind new products etc. The downside of these rumors, is the fact that people start expecting too much of Steve Jobs, which leads to disappointment.

This year’s rumors talk about an iPod touch with FaceTime capabilities without the need of any SIM-card. There are also rumors about a new Apple TV and a web-based iTunes. People are also expecting to here some new information about iOS 4 for the iPad. As the above picture shows, Apple is fully preparing for the event. The image of the guitar clearly shows the importance of music during this event. The Yerba Buena center is ready to receive its guests on September 1st, at 10 o’clock in the morning, local time.

There are also smaller tablets like the Archos 5 with a 4.8-inch screen and the Dell Streak with a 5-inch screen. You’ll also find tablets with screens bigger then the iPad screen, like the Asus EeePC EP121 who has a 12-inch screen.

The prices are very different from each other. The Indian tablet will cost only 35 dollar while the Toshiba Libretto W100 has a price tag of $1100. What do you think? Will one of these tablets defeat the iPad?

As the title suggests the game has some familiarity to it, since it combines the line drawing feature of Flight Control with the colorfulness of Super 7. The gameplay area is the water in which you’ll see orange and blue Globs. Globs of the same color need to be connected with each other by drawing a line. If they touch each other they’ll form a bigger Glob. By combining to bigger Globs of the same color you’ll earn more points and those Globs will disappear.

Blue and orange are not allowed to touch each other, but a green Glob can touch both colors. If orange and blue Globs are combined, you will loose one of three lives. After loosing all three lives, the game is over. The goal is to constantly try to make a new record a become the best of the world, since you scores will be submitted to OpenFeint. Another very addictive game for the iPad and it’s cheap as well.

You see a one or two seconds shot of various apps. After each shot is a word related to the app just shown. The ad starts with “iPad is…” and then shows the words: delicious, current, learning, playful, literary, artful, friendly, productive, scientific, and magical.

You’ll see apps like: Fruit Ninja HD, The Photo Cookbook, Star Walk, Flipboard, Pages and The Elements.

The video below shows how this can be done. The guy uses VNC to connect the iPad with the Mac mini. It’s not very quick, but it is working and there are not many troubles. It’s also possible to connect an iPhone or iPod touch with the Mac mini at the same time.

There’s one more thing you need and that’s a iPad stand. The picture shown at the top of this article shows it can be done (developed by iPad Unwired). One downside; the price. The new Mac mini costs $699. The cheapest iPad costs $499. Together with the necessary accessories the price could be at least $1300 to $1400. But at least you’ll have a very sleek and compact desktop alternative.
