Targus is going to bring special iPad screen protectors on the market in April. The screen protectors will use the Clear View technology, a technology which makes the protectors more smudge resistant.

The screen protectors will have a microscopic small structure of ribs spreading the finger smudges. The mirroring of the iPad screens will also be less strong so the screen is better readable.

Scratches will only damage the screen protector, not the iPas. And a special sort of glue makes it possible to attache the screen protector without bubbles and also allows for easy removal.

Targus has not given a price indication but the iPhone screen protectors cost $10. So expect the iPad version to be twice as expensive.

Developer Firemint became famous with its popular and addictive game Flight Control. It’s your job to guide airplanes to the correct runway by drawing lines. The developer has announced the game will be called Flight Control HD and will be launched not long after the iPad launch.

The game will be optimized for the larger iPad screen and will also be developed in a high resolution. Firemint is unsure if these changes will work smoothly since they can’t test it. They do think the users will be drawn into the game stonger because of the larger screen. This delivers a more intimate and personal experience.

As a nice little teaser, Firemint announced they’re working on “the biggest iPhone-project ever done”. No more information was given about this project other than the fact is will be launched in 2011.

A month ago I talked about the missing Stocks, Weather, Voice Memo, Clock and Calculator applications on the iPad. They might return as widgets, but Daring Fireball’s John Gruber’s sources say otherwise.

“It’s not that Apple couldn’t just create bigger versions of these apps and have them run on the iPad. It wasn’t a technical problem, it was a design problem. There were, internally to Apple (of course), versions of these apps (or least some of them) with upscaled iPad-sized graphics, but otherwise the same UI and layout as the iPhone versions. Ends up that just blowing up iPhone apps to fill the iPad screen looks and feels weird, even if you use higher-resolution graphics so that nothing looks pixelated. So they were scrapped by you-know-who. Perhaps they’ll appear on the iPad in some re-imagined form this summer with OS 4.0, but when the iPad ships next month, there won’t be versions of these apps. At least that’s the story I’ve heard from a few well-informed little birdies.

(There is, alas, no secret “widget” mode for iPad in OS 3.2, either.)”

Gruber also notes that iPhone games will work well on the iPad but simpler non-game iPhone applications will just feel strange. The small window in the middle of the screen of the iPad to display the iPhone app feels strange and also the 2x button makes the app look and feel slightly “off”.

Two and a half weeks ago I informed you about 1Password. The company behind the iPhone version of that application is developing an iPad version and has now released some new screenshots.

This is one of the apps for the iPad I’m really looking forward to (together with the iWork apps) so I’m definitely keeping my eyes on the development of this application. So, the previous mockups of both the landscape and portrait mode have been altered. The before and after mockups have been added into one picture to see the difference between the previous version and the latest mockup.

Here’s portait mode:

Next up is landscape mode:

And a little extra teaser showing the lock screen:

Let’s hope 1Password will be released as soon as the iPad launches.

Apple has released the fourth beta of the iPad SDK 3.2. The previous beta was released two weeks ago. So far there have been no new discoveries. The fourth beta fixes the bookmark function in Safari. The Camera tab has been removed from the Photos applications. Many people believed this tab was the best evidence that the iPad will have a camera after all. But Apple says the following:

“The Camera tab represents photos available via the Camera Connection Kit for iPad, and is not relevant for the Simulator. The Camera tab will disappear after a few seconds.”

As a paying user of the SDK you have access to the changelog and the SDK itself via the iPhone Dev Center.

TouchArcade met with David Whatley of Critical Thought Games to discuss the future of his company. Whatley said he will soon be focussing on game development. The company will expand, in the not too distant future, adding employees and setting up a brand new office.

One of the games they will be working on soon is geoDefense 2. The sequel to the first part will be iPad-only. The levels and gameplay will take advantage of the bigger screen size and horse power of the device. The graphical style will remain the same, but this time there will be tons of different towers to utilize.

Although the sequel might be iPad-only first, Whatley will try to adapt the iPad version of the game to the iPhone as well. More details have not been given at this point, as Critical Thought Games must first settle the office and staff before starting on the development of geoDefense 2.

The first iPad ad has been closely examined to find clues about the iPad we didn’t know yet. Both 9to5Mac and TUAW have done significant study to find a couple of nice little tidbits. A couple of prizes of e-books can be seen and there’s also a glimpse of My Documents and possibly a camera.

The memoirs of Ted Kennedy will cost $14,99. Other e-books will cost $12,99. The My Documents is a part of iWork. And so far we’ve heard only rumours and vague glimpses of a possible camera on the iPad. This time is no difference. After looking long enough some people have found a ’smudge’ on the exact place of where a camera could logically be placed (see picture below). It’s not very convincing, but for those who really want a camera on the iPad, this might be the little bit of hope they needed.

And for those of you who’d like to know what Apple finds important for the iPad, TUAW has analyzed the ad frame by frame and made an overview of their finds. See the following list:

Foto’s: 26%

E-mail: 22%

E-book: 20%

Video kijken: 15%

Internetten in Safari: 9%

Tekstverwerking in Pages: 4%

Agenda bekijken: 2%

Muziek: 1%

Kaarten: 1%

So it seems they think the Photos app will play a significant role on the iPad. Ofcourse the iPad is a device capable of doing much more, as seen in the list above, but the ad highlights the multimedia functions.

GumBallTech reports about the iPad being able to make emergency calls. If you dial the wrong password 5 times in a row, a slider for an emergency call appears (shown in the first picture below). If you slide you go to a screen which allows you to make a phone call (second picture below). The emergency phone call screen looks the one of the iPhone but with bigger buttons and a centered number pad.

Apple has not given any clue if the iPad is capable of making phone calls, but they might allow VoIP applications like Skype. Together with a bluetooth headset the iPad could very well be capable of making calls. Unfortunately, since the this functionality was discovered in the iPad Simulator, GumBallTech was unable to try out the call functions.

9to5Mac has yet again found some details about the iPad SDK. They found the settings for internet tethering, voice mail, and MMS settings. They also found a search option for Wikipedia. For a closer look at these details take a look at the video below:

The iPad pre-orders start on March 12th with an official launch in the US only, on April 3rd. So the marketing of the iPad can take the next step: an ad campaign. During the Oscars Apple launch the first iPad ad.

Steve Jobs was there as well to see how well Pixar’s animations have performed. The animation movie UP received two Oscars: one for Best Music and ons for Best Animation. Watch the 30 second ad below:

A little thing about the soundtrack of the ad. The song “There goes my love” is made by Blue Van. Apparently Apple has removed some lines because they might be offensive. Take a look below.

The cursive lines are the ones taken out:

Be, Be the charming type,
Take off your clothes and show what they hide,
Please, please my naked wrist,
With your hands and fingertips
And please, baby get on your knees,
Don’t bare bare bare your teeth,
I’ll let you try,
If you close your eyes,
I’ll have an answer for your wise.

There goes my love (10x)

[..]

Get on your knees,
Baby get on your knees,
I wanna feel feel feel your teeth!
