What is better then a stand? What is better then an extra battery? Yes, a combination of the two. The HyperMac Stand is both a stand and a battery. The stand offers 16 hours of extra battery life to your iPad. The stand-part of the HyperMac Stand offers two ways to position the iPad: one at an 18-degree angle and one at an 45-degree angle.

The battery is a 400watt-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery and promises to extend your iPad’s battery with another 16 hours. In theory that means you could work with the iPad a full 26 to 28 hours! Is there a downside? Unfortunately, yes. The price will not be everybody’s cup of tea as the HyperMac Stand is priced at $129,95. You’ll have to keep in mind ofcourse, that you get a stand AND a battery in one. Also compare the standalone HyperMac Battery to this HyperMac Stand. The price might suddenly become more attractive.

Below is the press release:

HyperMac Stand – The First And Only iPad Stand With Built-In Battery Pack
Pocket Sized Stand Holds And Charges iPad At The Same Time, Extends Battery Life By Extra 16 Hours

07.26.2010 – SUNNYVALE, California – Sanho Corporation, the company behind the award-winning HyperMac battery packs for Apple MacBook, iPad and iPhone today announce the availability of HyperMac Stand, the world’s first and only iPad stand with a built-in battery pack, providing up to 16 hours of additional battery life to the iPad.

HyperMac Stand incorporates 2 slots to hold the iPad at either 18 or 45 degrees, in portrait or landscape positions. The slots are specially treated with a soft touch coating to protect the iPad from scuffs and designed to work with both an encased or bare iPad.

Featuring a built-in 40-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery (compared to iPad’s internal 25-watt-hour battery), the HyperMac Stand is capable of extending the iPad battery life by an additional 16 hours, delivering power to the iPad via a 10W USB port. The HyperMac Stand itself can be recharged via a standard mini USB cable and supports pass-through charging/syncing so that the iPad can charge/sync with the computer even when it is connected via the HyperMac Stand. Users can check the HyperMac Stand battery level anytime with the built-in 5-stage lighted LED indicator.

“Most iPad stands in the market are either bulky or heavy or both, necessary characteristics to ensure that the not so tiny iPad can be properly supported,” states Daniel Chin, President of Sanho Corporation. “HyperMac Stand makes clever use of the natural weight of the lithium-ion battery cells to provide added stability,” he adds. “The end result is one of the most compact pocket-sized iPad stand available in the market with unsurpassed stability,” he continues. “Whatever little weight (12.7oz / 360g) the user have to carry is actually useful power to extend the iPad battery life by 1.5 times,” he concludes.

HyperMac batteries use the same high-end lithium ion cells and components that are supplied to the U.S. military, providing the utmost reliability, safety and performance. It is rechargeable up to 1,000 times and comes with a one year warranty

The HyperMac Stand is now available at www.hypermac.com/stand for $129.95.

Missing a webcam on the iPad? There might be a nice solution soon. Although it’s still a concept, the design looks very good. The iPad Cam-Case is designed by Chet Rosales. This designer actually packed the camera in a case, so the iPad is protected as well. The camera can be used to make video-calls with VOiP-like applications like Skype.

The good thing about this design is the fact the camera is implemented into a corner, so you can use the iPad in either landscape or portrait mode. The case is made of a rubber material. There is also a port on the bottom to be able to re-charge the iPad without taking it out of the case.

The software of the iPad isn’t designed to detect pressure on the touchscreen. It only detects shadow and warmth. Apparently it is possible to enable the touchscreen of the iPad to detect pressure on its service. Ten One Design has managed to write an application that works with the Pogo Sketch. With the app you can write or sketch. By pressing the pogo stick harder on the screen, the app shows a darker and bigger line. A light touch to the screen creates a light and thin line.

As shown in the demo video below, Ten One Design also incorporated palm rejection algorithms from their Inklet product to prevent detection of extraneous touches from your palm.

Hopefully Apple does allow this application. Ten One Design uses private frameworks to access the data, and Apple doesn’t allow apps to take advantage of private frameworks. However, TOD is hopeful they can update the public UIKit framework. If Apple eventually allows the framework, the company will release the code as a free software library, so other developers can include the software in their apps.

What do most people miss on the iPad? I think it’s the lack of a camera/webcam. Apple could have included iChat (and maybe iMovie), so you can chat with your friends using the camera and actually seeing each other. All the while the iPad is resting on your lap without having your legs getting burned by the heat a laptop produces. The iPad stays cool (no pun intended) and is much easier to use with applications like iChat than a laptop.

Microsoft has build a prototype webcam. The Microsoft Webcam can be plugged into the iPad dock connector. Video is displayed through VGA with a 640×480 resolution. The production model should be a lot smaller then the one displayed in the picture of this article. There’s only one obstacle here: Apple. They need to approve an app that works with the webcam. So you can either use the webcam via the official ways or via a jailbreak.

You buy an iPad, watch videos on it, listen to some music and play some games, but after a while you get bored. What do you do next? Well you write an application which enables you to control a blimp via the iPad.

That’s what happened at a killer event for the world’s top designers. What can you do to attract the audience to your project and even bring a smile to their faces? The answer: just fly a massive iPad controlled blimp over their heads.

The blimp is 52″ big and has a camera embedded into the cockpit. The iPad receives the live video-feed enabling users to control the blimp by using the iPad’s accelerometers. Everybody could give it a try and everything could be followed on the big screen at the event.

We created a modified BlimpDuino controlled by an iPad’s accelerometer for guests to have a play with. Added bonuses: you get a cockpit view on the iPad, so you can see whatever the blimp sees, and it just so happens that anyone that looks up at the blimp has their face turned into one of the exhibited Munny character’s faces.
